How to Set Up Google Business Profile for Your Business in Pakistan (Step-by-Step)

Abdul Sammad 24 Apr 2026 6 min read

Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the single highest-impact free tool available to any Pakistani business with a physical location or local service area. It's what puts your business on Google Maps. It's what produces the business card-style panel that appears on the right side of Google search results when someone searches your company name. And it's what determines whether you appear in the map pack — the three business listings shown above organic results for searches like "software company Lahore" or "digital marketing agency Islamabad".

Setting it up takes 20–30 minutes. Most Pakistani businesses haven't done it. This guide walks you through the process step by step.

Why Google Business Profile Matters for Pakistani Businesses

Before the setup steps, it's worth understanding what you're actually getting:

  • Map pack visibility. For local searches, the three businesses in the map pack get the majority of clicks — often more than the organic results below them. Without a verified GBP listing, you cannot appear there.
  • Trust signals. When someone searches your company name, a verified GBP listing shows your address, phone number, opening hours, photos, and reviews. This immediately increases the credibility of your business for anyone evaluating whether to contact you.
  • Google Reviews. Reviews from real clients appear on your GBP listing and directly influence both your local ranking and your conversion rate. Five genuine reviews can transform how a potential client perceives your business.
  • Free traffic. Appearing in the map pack for relevant local searches sends you qualified traffic at no cost per click. For businesses spending on Google Ads, GBP provides additional visibility on the same searches without additional spend.

Step 1: Create or Claim Your Business Profile

Go to business.google.com and sign in with a Google account (ideally your business Gmail, not a personal account).

Click "Add your business to Google". Enter your exact business name as it appears on your signboard and official documents. Consistency matters — the name on your GBP should match your website, business cards, and FBR registration exactly.

If your business already appears (someone may have created an unverified listing previously), click "Claim this business" instead of creating a new one.

Step 2: Choose Your Business Category

This is one of the most important decisions in the setup. Your primary category determines which searches you appear in. Choose the most specific category that describes your core service:

  • Software company → "Software Company" or "Computer Software Store"
  • Digital marketing agency → "Internet Marketing Service" or "Marketing Agency"
  • Clothing retailer → "Clothing Store" (more specific than "Retail Store")
  • Restaurant → the most specific cuisine type available

You can add secondary categories later. Start with the most accurate primary category.

Step 3: Add Your Location or Service Area

If you have a physical office or shop that customers can visit, enter your full address. Use your exact street address — not a vague description. For businesses in Lahore, include the area name (Gulberg, DHA, Johar Town) as Google uses this for local relevance.

If you serve customers at their location (consultants, IT support, delivery services), you can set a service area instead of or in addition to a physical address. Add the cities or regions you serve.

Step 4: Add Contact Information

Add your primary phone number with the correct country code format (+92-300-XXXXXXX). Add your website URL. These must be consistent with what's on your website — Google cross-checks them.

Step 5: Verify Your Business

Google requires verification to confirm you actually operate at the listed address. Verification options available in Pakistan:

  • Video call verification — most common current method. A Google representative calls you via video and asks you to show the exterior of your location, your signage, and some business documents. Takes 5–10 minutes.
  • Postcard verification — Google mails a postcard with a PIN to your address. Takes 1–2 weeks in Pakistan. Unreliable for many areas.
  • Phone or email verification — available for some account types if you've had a Google account for a long time.

Video call is currently the fastest and most reliable verification method in Pakistan. Have your business signage visible and a utility bill or lease document ready.

Step 6: Complete Your Profile — The Elements That Actually Impact Ranking

A verified but incomplete profile ranks poorly. After verification, complete every section:

Business Description (750 characters)

Write a clear description of what you do, who you serve, and where you're based. Include your primary keyword naturally. Example for a software company:

"Softvirtue Technologies builds custom software and digital marketing solutions for Pakistani retail, wholesale, and distribution businesses. Based in Lahore, we develop inventory management systems, web applications, POS systems, and run Google Ads and SEO campaigns. 50+ projects delivered since 2019. Free consultation available."

Business Hours

Set accurate hours including whether you're open on Fridays and Saturdays. Update hours for Eid and other Pakistani holidays when applicable — incorrect hours during major holidays are a common complaint that damages reviews.

Photos

Add at minimum:

  • Your office or shopfront exterior (so customers can find you)
  • Your office interior
  • Your team at work (builds trust)
  • Your logo

Listings with 10+ photos receive significantly more views and direction requests than listings with 1–2 photos. You don't need professional photography — clear, well-lit phone photos work well.

Services

Add each of your services individually with a name and description. This helps Google match your listing to more specific searches.

Attributes

Google offers various attributes depending on your business type. Relevant ones for Pakistani businesses: "Online appointments", "Free consultation", "Serves Lahore / Karachi / Islamabad".

Step 7: Get Your First Reviews

Reviews are the fastest lever to improve your local ranking after setup. The approach that works in Pakistan:

  1. Go to your GBP dashboard and find the "Share review link" option — this gives you a short URL directly to your review form
  2. Send this link via WhatsApp to 5–10 clients you've worked with and have a good relationship with
  3. Message personally: "Assalamu Alaikum, we've just set up our Google business page. If you found our work valuable, a short review would mean a lot to us." Include the direct link.
  4. Follow up once if needed — most clients are happy to leave a review when asked directly and given the direct link

Five genuine reviews with real names will often produce a noticeable local ranking improvement within 2–4 weeks. Fake reviews are against Google's policy and can result in your listing being suspended — not worth the risk.

Step 8: Post Regularly to Your GBP

Google Business Profile has a "Posts" feature that lets you publish updates, offers, or articles directly to your listing. Businesses that post regularly signal active management to Google — a ranking factor.

Post cadence: once per week or once per fortnight is sufficient. Post types that work well:

  • Project completion announcements ("We just delivered an inventory system for a Gulberg retailer")
  • Blog post links (share your new articles)
  • Offers ("Free consultation this month — WhatsApp us to book")
  • Team or office photos

Connecting GBP to Your Website and Broader SEO

For your GBP to work together with your website SEO:

  • Ensure your business name, address, and phone number on your website exactly match your GBP listing — letter for letter, including capitalisation
  • Add LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService schema markup to your website's homepage with the same NAP details
  • Link your GBP to your website and verify the website in Google Search Console — these three tools working together signal legitimate, established business presence to Google

How Long Until You See Results?

Map pack visibility improvements typically appear within 4–8 weeks of a complete, verified GBP setup in Pakistan — faster in cities where your category has fewer competitors. Reviews accelerate this significantly. A fully populated listing with 5+ reviews in a mid-competition Pakistani B2B category can reach the local map pack within 60 days.

GBP setup is something every Pakistani business can do independently. If you'd like help with the broader local SEO strategy — on-page optimisation, content, and link building alongside your GBP — see our SEO services page or book a free consultation.
